Time travel is a metaphor for how we remember things. The 1970s in NYC are at least three different time tracks for me -- Columbia U stuff, St. Mark's Poetry Project and friends, and bicycling and friends, almost no overlap. Chronological order is much more artificial than how we really remember (the other odd thing is the experience last year of totally not remembering events where what I did was memorable for the other person, introducing two people).
The present is always part of the past as we remember it.
